About Morse Code
Morse code is a method of encoding text characters as sequences of dots and dashes. It was developed in the 1830s and 1840s for the electric telegraph and became the standard for long-distance communication for over a century. The International Morse code covers the 26 letters, the digits 0 to 9, and common punctuation.
A dot is the basic unit of time. A dash lasts three units, the gap between symbols in a letter is one unit, the gap between letters is three units, and the gap between words is seven units. This translator uses a forward slash to mark word gaps and can play the code as audio so you can hear the rhythm.
