About the NATO Phonetic Alphabet
The NATO phonetic alphabet, officially the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet, assigns a code word to each letter of the English alphabet. It was designed so that critical combinations of letters and numbers can be pronounced and understood clearly over radio and telephone, even with poor signal quality or background noise.
It is widely used by aviation, the military, emergency services, and customer support teams to spell out names, confirmation codes, and other important information without confusion. For example, the easily mixed-up letters "B" and "D" become the very distinct words "Bravo" and "Delta".
