About Unit Conversion
Unit conversion changes a measurement from one unit to another while keeping the same physical quantity. Most conversions are ratio-based: each unit is defined relative to a base unit, so converting means multiplying and dividing by known factors.
Temperature is the exception. Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin do not share a common zero point, so they require addition and subtraction in their formulas rather than a simple ratio. This tool handles temperature with the correct formulas and all other categories with precise conversion factors.
